We are running our very popular half-term writing workshops again.
During the workshop, the students will be working through a series of activities to inspire their content and refine their writing skills, thinking about how to express their ideas and write it in an original way that stands out. These are skills that can be used in school immediately!
Tuesday 9:30 - 12:30 11+ CSSE Maths Walking Talking Mock
During our 'walking, talking' CSSE Maths Paper workshop, the student will be able to look at how to manage their time and how to answer question with different mark values. They will have the opportunity to discuss with other students how they 'attack' the papers and share good practice as well as learning 'top tips' from the teacher.
Tuesday 13:00 - 16:00 - Year 2 & 3 Writing Workshop
The year 2 and 3 writing workshop focuses on teaching children how to identify and include different word types and add more detail to their writing in line with the national curriculum. We also aim to expose children to a wider vocabulary that they can then start to include in their own writing. Each child is extended from their own unique starting point to ensure progress within the session.
Wednesday 9:30 - 12:30 - 11+ and Year 6 Writing Workshop
Here at Kip we have developed a writing technique that helps to make writing more manageable. We find that lots of our children find it difficult to know where to start with their writing as they want to include all the literary elements they have learned. Our writing technique makes writing more ‘formulaic’ so that the students can following 3 simple steps to ensure that their writing ‘ticks the boxes’ needed to get the highest marks that they can.
Wednesday 13:00 - 16:00 - GCSE Maths Paper 2 Mock
This Maths workshop will be walking, talking mocks covering both the calculator and non-calculator papers. This will enable students to use exam skills to help them answer questions with teacher guidance. Students will be shown how to identify key words in questions in order to solve and will look at how to manage timings as well as talking through solutions for problems.
Thursday 9:30 - 12:30 - 11+ CSSE English Walking Talking Mock
The ‘walking, talking’ English CSSE workshop is exactly that. The students will go through all the different types of questions and discuss and learn how to answer each question as fully as they can. They will also look at how to manage their time as well as learning tips on which questions to tackle first.
Thursday 13:00 - 16:00 - Year 4 & 5 Writing Workshop
Our year 4 and 5 writing workshop gives the students hints and tips that help them to include all the different elements of writing that they have learned within their work.
Friday 9:30 - 12:30 - 11+ CEM Walking Talking Mock
For those students working towards the CEM exam, we will be running a 'walking, talking' mock paper. As well as identifying gaps in learning that should be worked on, this workshop will look at exam strategies such as timing, that are specific to this multiple choice exam.
Friday 13:00 - 16:00 - GCSE AQA English Language Workshop
Our AQA English language paper workshop will cover the 6 questions covered in the papers 1 and 2. As well as looking at how to fully answer the questions in order to get the maximum marks, the students will be given strategies and examples of how to answer concisely so as to manage their timings. The session will allow for students to self and peer assess their work based on the assessment objectives that will explained within the session.
