We are running our very popular half-term writing workshops again this October half-term.

During the workshop, the students will be working through a series of activities to inspire their content and refine their writing skills, thinking about how to express their ideas and write it in an original way that stands out.  These are skills that can be used in school immediately!

KS1 - KS2:

Year 2 and 3 Writing Workshop - 24th Oct 13:00 - 16:00

The year 2 and 3 writing workshop focuses on teaching children how to identify and include different word types and add more detail to their writing in line with the national curriculum. We also aim to expose children to a wider vocabulary that they can then start to include in their own writing. Each child is extended from their own unique starting point to ensure progress within the session. 

Years 4 and 5 Writing Workshop - 22nd Oct 13:00 - 16:00

Our year 4 and 5 writing workshop gives the students hints and tips that help them to include all the different elements of writing that they have learned within their work.  

Year 6 SATs and 11+ Writing Workshop - 22nd Oct 9:30 - 12:30

Here at Kip we have developed a writing technique that helps to make writing more manageable.  We find that lots of our children find it difficult to know where to start with their writing as they want to include all the literary elements they have learned.  Our writing technique makes writing more ‘formulaic’ so that the students can following 3 simple steps to ensure that their writing ‘ticks the boxes’ needed to get the highest marks that they can. 

11+/SATS Vocabulary workshop -24th Oct 13:00 - 16:00

Our 11+ Vocabulary workshop helps to develop the students use of language in order to add a level of maturity within their writing which boosts their levels. Through games and written tasks, the children will learn and apply new vocabulary to help to up level their work and gain extra marks in their exam. 

Public Speaking Workshop - 22nd Oct 13:00 - 16:00

Led by our specialist LAMDA teacher, our public speaking workshop will enable students to develop in their speaking voice, positive body language and self-confidence.

Introduction to 11+ Workshop - 24th Oct 9:30 - 12:30

An introduction for anyone in year 4 and 5 who may be considering taking the 11+ exams. The workshop will expose the children to the different elements of the exam as well as allowing them to try questions from past papers.  By giving our students a ‘taste’ of what is to be expected, they then feel more confident and informed when starting their 11+ journey.


 
KS3 - KS4:

KS3 Year 7-9 Creative writing workshop 23rd Oct 13:00 - 16:00

Using our ‘writing formula’, the students will learn easy ways to improve their creative writing skills in order to gain higher marks.  In line with the KS3 national curriculum, the workshop will teach tips to improve vocabulary and description, help vary sentence openers, develop complexity of sentences and make writing more cohesive.

Public speaking workshop 25th Oct 9:30 - 12:30

Led by our specialist LAMDA teacher, our public speaking workshop will enable students to develop in their speaking voice, positive body language and self-confidence.  Great transferrable skills for all our students and particularly useful for interview techniques and presentation skills.

 AQA GCSE English Language Walking Talking Mock  - 22nd Oct 9:30 - 12:30

Our AQA English language paper workshop will cover the 6 questions covered in the papers 1 and 2.  As well as looking at how to fully answer the questions in order to get the maximum marks, the students will be given strategies and examples of how to answer concisely so as to manage their timings. The session will allow for students to self and peer assess their work based on the assessment objectives that will explained within the session.

GCSE Maths Walking Talking Mock - Higher paper 23rd Oct 9:30 - 12:30 & Foundation Paper 24th Oct 9:30 - 12:30

These Maths workshops will be walking, talking mocks covering both the calculator and non-calculator papers. This will enable students to use exam skills to help them answer questions with teacher guidance. Students will be shown how to identify key words in questions in order to solve and will look at how to manage timings as well as talking through solutions for problems.

GCSE Creative writing workshop- 23rd Oct 13:00 - 16:00

Our GCSE students can attend this workshop to help them to improve their skills for the writing part of the exam.  Our specialist English teacher will offer advice and tips that will help our students gain as many marks as they can.

AQA GCSE Poetry Workshop - 26th Oct 9:30 - 12:30

Led by our expert English teacher who is also an experienced AQA examiner, our poetry workshop will support students with their anthology as well as looking at how to answer the ‘unseen poetry’ questions as fully as possible.


 
11+ and Private Entry Workshops:

Private school entry exam prep workshop - 23rd Oct 9:30 - 12:30

In the exam preparation workshops, the students will go through all the different types of questions and discuss and learn how to answer each question as fully as they can. They will also look at how to manage their time as well as learning tips on which questions to tackle first.
